Experience at Forest Art Camp in Boreal Forest, Saskatchewan
I'm back from Forest Art, Ness Creek: 4 days in the boreal forest, Saskatchewan! I'm glad for the experience and all the plein air practice. It was a tiring week with hot temperatures, humidity and major bugs (black, deer, horse, any kind of fly you can name, they were there... and of course, the mosquitoes!). I bathed in DEET daily. However we had beautiful days, practically NO rain and I was super thankful to have a borrowed Fifth Wheel with a/c and running water to sleep in at night. And very thankful that my husband, Jon, was there to make some meals and moral support. It was go go go with 3 plein air sessions each day, early mornings, afternoons and evening. I learned some things I can work on and gained more confidence in my abilities, which sometimes is half the battle. I look forward to pushing myself to do MORE plein air this year! I also got to rub shoulders with many talented, local artists.
In preparation for this camp, I built my own art carrier for larger canvas (I had built one last summer for 9 x 12). This one holds 11 x14 and 14 x 18.
Here’s some of the art accomplished while at Ness Creek
As you can see, some of these turned out a bit dark or the perspective is a bit off. Even though I wore sunglasses on a bright sunny day to combat the effects it might have on my value choices, I still ended up with some dark paintings once they were brought in doors so this will be something to keep in mind.
