Giant White Lily on a Textured Yellow & Metallic Gold Background

The Client wanted a key centre piece of art for above the fireplace. Something that would fit in with the colour scheme and theme in the room. We decided a floral theme would work well, but instead of doing a busy canvas full of flowers (like the couch), I thought one single large flower would contrast the other floral designs in the room. As well, the Client already had some artificial lilies in a vase so painting a lily was an obvious choice. The colour is a bit punchier than the other yellows in the room which helps to draw out the yellows out in the room.

Monet-Inspired

You can’t go wrong with a Monet inspired work of art!

Above the Bath

The Client wanted a piece that would add colour to a mostly white bathroom while bringing out some of the subtle purples in the room. I suggested we go with a water theme since it would be hanging over the tub and then we went back and forth with monet-inspired ideas. This is no Monet but the Client is happy with the vivid colours. We choose a wood canvas and sealed all sides. The sides are painted and the edges are nice and crisp due to it being a wood box.

Secret Garden

The Client wanted a key centre piece of art for above their kingsize bed that would bring out more of the deep pink and purples in the room. This was a rush job and we needed to find a surface quickly. It was a challenge to find a canvas the right size so we bought one wide enough that was too high, removed the canvas, cut down the frame and re-stretched the canvas. Since I painted it while visiting Ottawa, it was too wet to add the final touches like a signature (I'll add that on my next visit!). The Client is quite pleased with the outcome and it was a great experience to work so quickly on such a large piece. Also challenging, was figuring out the composition—inspiration was drawn from a photo of Sudeley Castle & Gardens in the UK, however, the photo on it's own would not cover the space and we needed the colours to fit the room so changes and additions were made. Mostly what remained the same were the gate, the tree to the left of the gate and the pink flowers.

Add Some Colour without Painting the Room

Field of Poppies

This was one of my first commissions and the client knew they wanted red poppies and provided some inspirational example photos. In retrospect, the background mountain/hills could have been a touch more interesting... maybe with a hint of blue or purple with a more vivid sky. This was created in acrylic paint and has a lot of texture (as requested by the client)! The texture is very nice. The client was very happy with the outcome and it still hangs in their dining room more than a decade later.
